Riley County Emergency Medical Service,
located
in Manhattan, Kansas is
one of 28 Type I ambulance services out of 182 in the state. EMS services are
licensed as Type I only if they can provide paramedic level advanced life
support 24 hours a day. Other services are considered Type II. Riley County
contracted with Memorial Hospital in 1989 to oversee operations of the ambulance
service. Today, RCEMS is part of the Department of Emergency Services at Mercy
Regional Health Center of Manhattan. We are the primary providers of Emergency Medical
Services for all of Riley County, and the southwestern corner of Pottawatomie
County (Blue Township).

Shift Structure
Three 24 hour shifts, each consisting of
a Captain, a Lieutenant, and five other technicians who are either MICTs or EMTs.
Each crew works a 24-hour shift starting and ending at 07:00, working three
shifts with 24 hours off in between, followed by four days off.
Facilities
Our headquarters and administrative
offices are located at 2011 Claflin Road, and were built in 1980.
The second station is located at the Manhattan
Fire Department on Poyntz Ave. where we have one EMS unit and crew.
Station Five is our substation in the town of Riley, built in 1995. This is a
building that is shared with the Riley County Fire Department and houses our
First Responder Unit.
Station Nine is our substation in the town of
Randolph, which is a Riley County Fire Department station and houses our
First Responder Unit.
Special Outreaches
Members of our staff teach CPR, ACLS, PALS, and other classes through area
hospitals and educational institutions.
RCEMS serves as a statewide clinical and field internship site for First
Responder, EMT, EMT-I and MICT classes for several educational institutions.
Provide standby EMS coverage to area high school and university athletic
events, special events, drag races, and Bramlage Coliseum events.
Kansas approved training center for continuing education for EMS and other
public safety personnel.
Sponsorship of Safe Kids, Riley County.
